Trista Joy Lathern - Fake Breast CancerLast summer, Trista Joy Lathern, a Waco, Texas resident, was arrested for fraud after being discovered that she had raised funds for her breast augmentation by posing as a cancer patient. After holding fundraisers in which she claimed to need money to cover costs for chemotherapy treatment, Lathern used the raised money to undergo two breast enhancements. No one around her suspected any foul play, including her husband, and willingly donated to her medical expenses at these events. It was reported that Lathern and her husband had been going through troubled times and she thought the procedures could help save her marriage.

Now, a year after getting caught, Lathern is headed to jail for 12 months and has had to pay more than $16,000 in restitution. Those who donated money to her treatment are being located in order to be reimbursed. She raised approximately $10,000 and even went to so far as to shave her head to play the part of a cancer patient. It was her plastic surgeon who reported her to authorities when he heard about her alleged cancer and has said that there was no evidence of the disease when he performed the procedure.
