Earlier this year, there was a recall on Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) breast implants in France, Australia, and Great Britain. Due to an unauthorized form of silicone gel, patients have had to undergo thorough examinations in order to determine if there are any leaks or ruptures. Should a patient experience complications, she must have the implants removed to avoid further harm to her health. Fortunately, breast implants used in the United Sates are extremely monitored in order to prevent such circumstances.

Today, there are only two brands of breast implants approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – Mentor and Natrelle. These have undergone meticulous testing and evaluation prior to gaining approval for use in breast augmentation surgery. Qualified and experienced cosmetic plastic surgeons who are trained in this procedure are also well-informed on the safety of these implants. Patients are urged to carefully research the breast implants procedure, physician, and implants in order to be well-educated prior to surgery and have a more enjoyable surgery.

Based in South Florida, Constantino G. Mendieta, M.D., F.A.C.S. performs breast enhancement surgery with the use of saline and silicone gel breast implants. During an initial consultation, patients may have their questions and concerns addressed, as well as undergo an examination to determine the most appropriate surgery options.

Women who are in their 20s, all through their 50s, are often concerned with their body image, specifically with their breasts. For varied reasons, women of all ages may experience asymmetry, loss of volume, or naturally small breasts. In order to correct these features, most women opt to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery. However, not all prospective patients are sure about which procedure is right for them – breast augmentation or breast lift surgery?

Ideal candidate for a breast augmentation are those who desire larger breasts, better-balanced body shape, and/or loss of volume with minimal sagging. Typically, breast enlargement involves the use of either saline or silicone breast implants, which are placed either above the chest muscle or beneath the muscle. The implants are inserted through incisions made around the nipple, under breast, in the armpit, or through the belly button. Women who have lost volume in the breasts and experience severe sagging may be better suited for a breast lift. This typically involves incisions made around the nipple, vertically down the breast, and horizontally along the breast crease. The surgeon then raises the breast tissue to a more youthful position on the chest wall and removes any excess skin. In some circumstances, a breast lift with augmentation may be appropriate.

If you are in learning more about breast augmentation and/or breast lift surgery in the New York City area, you may wish to contact Samuel Beran, M.D., F.A.C.S. He offers both procedures, with the skills and ability to produce beautiful, natural-looking outcomes.

Cosmetic plastic surgery such as breast reduction has often been more popular amongst the female population; however, in recent years, there are more men undergoing body enhancing procedures. A procedure that has seen a great increase in frequency is gynecomastia surgery, which is the reduction of enlarged breasts in men.

Due to various reasons, such as age, weight gain, use of anabolic steroids, kidney or liver disease, or hormone imbalance, men can have “female-like” breasts.

Many begin to show signs of enlarged breast tissue in their teen years, typically around 13 or 15 years of age. As a result, those who suffer from gynecomastia often feel uncomfortable without a shirt and shy away from certain activities. In order to correct this unpleasant feature, men often opt to undergo gynecomastia or male breast reduction surgery for a more masculine appearance.

Based on the patient’s anatomy and desired outcome, a qualified plastic surgeon can create a personalized treatment plan to meet his needs. It is important to properly research the physician in order to achieve optimal results. Plastic surgeon Brian S. Glatt, M.D., F.A.C.S., a Morris County breast augmentation specialist also offers gynecomastia in New Jersey and the surrounding areas. Feel free to contact his practice to learn more about female and male breast reduction surgery in the New Jersey area.

As part of the treatment for breast cancer, many women undergo a mastectomy (the removal of a breast) or a partial mastectomy (partial removal of a breast, also known as a lumpectomy or breast conservation surgery). Both surgeries can drastically alter the shape of the breast. While some women choose to wear special padded bras or other clothing to mask the effects of a mastectomy, others opt to undergo breast reconstruction surgery concurrently to their breast cancer treatment or shortly after.

If you are considering breast reconstruction surgery, it’s best to consult with your oncologist as well as a qualified plastic surgeon before your operation in order to weigh out your options. Depending on your situation, you may be able to have your breast reconstruction performed at the same time as your mastectomy. If this is the case, you may want to discuss what type of cosmetic work you will have done, such as a breast implant or a breast lift, and what you can expect in terms of recovery time. Because the effect that chemotherapy and other cancer treatments may have on your body; recovery from your breast reconstruction surgery may be slowed.

In some cases, breast reconstruction should be deferred until you have fully recovered from your breast cancer treatments. Additional mammograms and other screenings may need to be performed after your operation, and a breast implant may hinder the efficacy of these tests. These issues reinforce the importance of consulting with a plastic surgeon as well as your oncologist. If a qualified plastic surgeon is apprised of your particular medical needs, oftentimes, a favorable surgical plan can be adapted to your situation. For example, Ocean Plastic Surgery, an Orange County breast augmentation practice that specializes in breast reconstruction, offers a wide range of options for breast cancer survivors, including tissue expanders, flap reconstruction, allograft implants and capsulectomy. Ocean Plastic Surgery also offers a number of procedures that specifically treat the aesthetic after-effects of a mastectomy, such as nipple reconstruction and tattooing to correct color irregularities of the areola.

In most cases, it is possible to restore your breasts to a natural, feminine shape after breast cancer surgery. However, it is important to collaborate with a skilled plastic surgeon and other medical practitioners to ensure that your breast reconstruction procedure is performed safely and effectively.

Women who are considering undergoing a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure such as breast augmentation must take various factors into account prior to surgery. Some of these include breast implant type, incision location, implant placement, and most importantly, the plastic surgeon. Many patients have found that the more informed they are regarding the procedure and their physician, they better outcome they achieve.

Recently, former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland opened up about her own breast enlargement procedure. In an article, she states that she waited 10 years before undergoing the procedure; during that time, she researched and met with surgeons in order to determine if the surgery was right for her. Now that she has publicly addressed her breast surgery, she encourages others to carefully consider their options and do their homework before choosing a breast implant surgeon. Typically, it is in the patient’s best interest to learn of the doctor’s education, training, credentials, and experience in the particular procedure. When a patient feels at ease and confident with her surgeon, results can be much more satisfying.

Unfortunately, some patients experience unpleasant results and/or complications after their procedure. Typically, when the outcome is not satisfactory, a secondary procedure may be necessary. Therefore, when considering a revisional procedure it is important to find a surgeon with experience and training in this surgery.

The most common reasons a patient may undergo breast implant revision are due to implant rupture, capsular contracture, implant visibility, and/or incorrect implant size. Others may simply wish exchange saline filled implants with silicone gel breast implants. In addition, patients who have had their primary implants for seven to 10 years may wish to have new implants placed in order to achieve a more youthful appearance. The revision surgery commonly involves removing the original implants; in certain circumstances, the breasts may require time to heal before placing the new ones. Once the breasts have healed, a qualified cosmetic plastic surgeon can complete the breast implant revision procedure.

Those in the Miami area who seek an experienced breast surgeon may wish to contact Ary Krau, M.D., F.A.C.S. Further information regarding this procedure is available on his website. You can schedule an initial consultation to discuss your options.

After holding fundraisers in which she claimed to need money to cover costs for chemotherapy treatment, Lathern used the raised money to undergo two breast enhancements. No one around her suspected any foul play, including her husband, and willingly donated to her medical expenses at these events. It was reported that Lathern and her husband had been going through troubled times and she thought the procedures could help save her marriage.

Now, a year after getting caught, Lathern is headed to jail for 12 months and has had to pay more than $16,000 in restitution. Those who donated money to her treatment are being located in order to be reimbursed. She raised approximately $10,000 and even went to so far as to shave her head to play the part of a cancer patient. It was her plastic surgeon who reported her to authorities when he heard about her alleged cancer and has said that there was no evidence of the disease when he performed the procedure.

Throughout the years, there have been several advances in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery, more specifically, in breast augmentation surgery. For a long time, patients have had the option to enlarge their breast size and shape with only the use of saline or silicone gel filled breast implants. Now, the latest technique no longer requires inserting foreign objects to the body. Breast surgery professionals are beginning to offer breast enhancement via fat transfer.

This method entails removing excess fat from other areas of the body through liposuction and injecting it into the breast area. By adding fat to the chest muscle, the breasts will increase in size. It allows for one area of the body to be sculpted to a more slender form, while adding volume to the breasts. Breast augmentation through fat grafting is better suited for those who seek only a slight increase in their breast size versus women who want large breasts. When considering this method of breast augmentation, it is important to seek the assistance of a qualified and trained surgeon.

If you are in the Manhattan or New York City area, Sydney Coleman, M.D. can help you learn more regarding your options in this procedure. Further information is also available on his website

But upgrading your bra to accommodate your new and improved breasts isn’t as simple as getting the same bra you had before except one or two cup sizes bigger. Before you go shopping, consider the following:

You May Already Be Wearing the Wrong Bra Size

There’s an apocryphal statistic floating around that says 85 percent of women are currently wearing the wrong bra size. What happens, so say the experts, is a woman will at some point arbitrarily decide that the right bra for her is an X size band with an X size cup. She winds up wearing that size bra for years, not because it’s comfortable (as bras rarely are), but because it’s familiar. This is the number one reason why basing a bra purchase after a breast augmentation on your previous bra is a bad idea.

Breast Implants Aren’t Measured in Cup Sizes

Breast implants are measured in terms of CCs, not cup size. Likewise, most surgeons don’t even like to discuss your surgical goals in terms of cup size. Cup size is a somewhat arbitrary measurement, as it doesn’t factor in shape, placement on your chest and your body type. Instead, a skilled and artistic plastic surgeon will work towards creating the best-looking breasts for you, rather than aiming for a particular size. Your actual cup size may be bigger or smaller than you originally envisioned.

It’s Tough to Shop Off the Shelf

You know this one already. One brand’s notion of a 36F may be what another brand thinks is a 34G. Buying bras isn’t like buying tires for a car—and it shouldn’t be. The shape of a woman’s breasts is as unique as their fingerprints. That’s why there’s a bona fide industry for bra fitters. Like a tailor or seamstress, a bra fitter can professionally and accurately find you a bra that fits.

Breast implants means a new body, a new outlook and, last but not least, a new bra. Make sure you choose a bra that matches your new lifestyle and shape as aptly as your new breasts do.

Women who have lost volume and/or laxity in their breasts due to pregnancy and/or aging often turn to cosmetic plastic surgery in order to reverse sagging. The most commonly requested procedure is breast lift surgery, which elevates the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall and removes excess skin and tissue. Recently a new technique has been introduced that is termed the “NaturaBra Breast Lift,” which uses the patient’s own tissue to hold the new position and shape in place. In this procedure, the surgeon uses the breast tissue to create an internal bra for the patient, which essentially lifts the breasts and produces a more youthful appearance.

A Dallas breast enlargement specialist, David E. Morales, M.D. performs breast lift surgery at his practice. He offers patients three variations in the procedure, which include a simple nipple lift, moderate lollipop lift, and anchor lift for those with significant drooping. Based on the patients anatomy and desired outcome, a personalized surgical plan is created. Dr. Morales typically utilizes the patient’s own dermis (second layer of skin) to help hold the new breast shape and placement. This is very similar to what is done in the NaturaBra lift, which produces an internal bra.

If you would like further information regarding the breast lift procedure, you may browse Dr. Morale’s website. An appointment may also be scheduled in order to discuss your options.
